A new edition of the longest-running Croatian carnival is starting soon. The place is Rijeka, and the event is the Rijeka Carnival. Plan some of the key four dates (and maybe all four) because this year's dates are known!

SELECTION OF THE QUEEN AND HANDOVER OF THE KEY

The selection of the Rijeka Carnival Queen is traditionally the opening event of the Rijeka Carnival, when masqueraders choose the most charming female representative who will participate in all public presentations of the Rijeka Carnival. Every year, this manifestation presents a challenge to numerous carnival groups who nominate their representatives for the "Golden Mantle" and the flattering title of Carnival Queen. In addition to knowing the carnival tradition, the girls have to express themselves with charm and wit, dancing and musical skills, and beauty is not an advantage in this case…

Along with the selection of the Queen, the best stage performances of carnival groups accompanied by each candidate are traditionally awarded, and after the announcement of the new Rijeka Carnival Queen, thousands of masked people eagerly await the handover of the "city keys". The mayor of Rijeka hands over the keys to the Master of the Carnival and the time of madness can begin. From that moment on, masks will rule the city, all problems remain forgotten… Masks rule, which do not hide, but reveal the joy of life, songs, love…

CHILDREN'S CARNIVAL PARADE

The children's carnival parade is a carnival event in which the youngest generations from the country and abroad participate, when a river of children in a colorful masked parade floods Rijeka's Korzo.

Countless characters from fairy tales and the most beautiful creatures from the imagination are the main attraction of the Rijeka Carnival on that day, which brings many visitors from all over the world. Masked kids are a guarantee and a promise that the carnival tradition will never die out in these areas, but will live on for centuries and pass on the spirit of masquerade to the next generations, who will know how to appreciate the legacy of their ancestors.

INTERNATIONAL CARNIVAL PROCEDURE

The international carnival parade is the crown of carnival celebrations in Kvarner and beyond. Competition in imagination, wit and originality, fireworks of colors and shapes, results in a parade of hundreds of allegorical cars, thousands of masks and an immeasurable number of spectators from the country and abroad.
