It is said that it was Andersen who found inspiration in the character of Palčić from the collection of the Brothers Grimm for his story about a miniature girl with huge problems: she is kidnapped by a frog, abandoned by a beetle, blackmailed by a mouse, begged by a mole…

"Thumb" was first published back in 1835, and the analyzes to which it has since been exposed have found elements of Greek myth, Hindu belief and even – Andersen's private life. Nevertheless, "Thumb" was, and remains, a story of heartiness and strength that does not come from the size of the body but from the purity of soul and clarity of intention, while the little ones in the character of Thumbs find their own reflection in the incomprehensible world of the great.
