Kino Metropolis opened with the Zagreb premiere of the film Samac

Metropolis Cinema opened on September 2, 2010 in the Gorgon Hall of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb with the Zagreb premiere of the celebrated feature film "Single" (A Single Man) directed by Tom Ford. The program manager of Kina Metropolis since its launch has been film critic Zlatko Vidačković. For ten years now, Kino Metropolis has been influencing the Zagreb cinema audience by encouraging reflexivity and criticism and consuming better quality cultural audiovisual content, offering top film, festival and revue content that represents a departure from the dominant mainstream concepts.

Kino Metropolis has been a member of the Europa cinemas chain since January 2013 as the leader of a mini group of five Croatian cinemas (it also includes the Tuškanac Summer Stage in Zagreb, Kino Novska, Kino POU Daruvar and Kinoteka Zlatna vrata in Split). Kino Metropolis hosts the European Film Review, Pula in Zagreb, Europe in Cinema and other festival events.

The main program of Kina Metropolis shows European and independent world feature films selected not only from the world's most prestigious film festivals (Cannes, Venice, Berlin, Rome, Karlovy Vary, etc.) but also the repertoire of European art cinemas. The goal of this project is to qualitatively enrich the film repertoire, as well as the offer of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Zagreb, with a carefully selected and artistically valuable film program.

The cinema program also includes Croatian and European short feature films, which are often shown as an introduction to feature films. European short films provide cinema audiences with key EU challenges in the areas of new technologies, climate change, migration, security, population and economic trends and the strengthening of populist rhetoric.

The cinema's repertoire also includes excellent European and Croatian documentaries. The children's program shows selected Croatian, European and independent world animated and feature films for children.
