José Carreras, one of the most prominent opera singers of his generation, is coming to the Vatroslav Lisinski Concert Hall on September 23, where he will perform some of his most famous arias and songs, accompanied by the Zagreb Philharmonic.

Carreras is world famous for his outstanding vocal technique, deep expression of emotions and interpretation of roles in the operas of Verdi and Puccini. Born in Spain, Carreras won the hearts of audiences around the world with his exceptional artistry.

During an extremely successful career, Carreras performed over 60 roles on stage and in recording studios. His voice, which stands out for its extraordinary warmth and expressiveness, captured the attention of listeners around the world. Carreras has also achieved impressive sales figures with more than 85 million records sold, making him one of the most commercially successful opera singers of all time.

What makes Carreras special is not only his voice, but also his incredible contribution in the fight against leukemia. After surviving this serious disease himself in 1987, he founded the Jose Carreras International Leukemia Foundation with the aim of supporting research and treatment of this disease.

After his recovery, he found a new role as a popularizer of opera. As a passionate football fan, he came up with the idea to form the Three Tenors on the occasion of the opening of the 1990 World Cup in Italy. He and his friends Plácido Domingo and Luciano Pavarotti intended to hold the concert as a one-off event, but due to its huge popularity, they performed 30 more times together, achieving huge record sales – which still holds the record for classical music.

Conductor David Giménez, who is known for his extraordinary understanding of the voice, together with Carreras has already performed numerous unforgettable concerts around the world. His leadership will ensure a flawless performance and an unforgettable musical experience for all visitors.

Along with Carreras, soprano Martina Zadro will contribute to the magic of the evening with her extraordinary voice and interpretation.
