IX. Bobby's Days of Laughter BALD SINGER

Author: Eugene Ionesco

Director: Hrvoje Korbar

Trapped in conformism, which no longer even tries to suppress its own conservatism in order to preserve the existing state that promises the illusion of pleasure, we agree to the "world of slogans", learned truths which by their ubiquity do not allow even a hint of change. People move automatically, for no reason. They can't talk anymore because they can't think anymore – concludes symptomatically Ionesco, who through Bald Singer sets up a diagnostic picture of the world in which communication is based on a verbal cycle of language jokes and shows faces on stage like messy patches of what we could sometimes call "We". The cacophony of "absolute truths" that forms the repressive apparatus of normalcy, builds a world that no longer has a "story" on which to base itself and thus supports an escape into supposed order and rules, the safety of Sunday lunches, rehearsed smiles for all occasions and the search for content beyond ourselves. .
