The Croatian Museum of Natural History, located in Demetrava Street in Gornji Grad, after three years of thorough renovation and enrichment and modernization of its contents, opens its doors to visitors at the end of September with a new exhibition.

With the complete renovation and expansion of the protected cultural monument – the historic Gornji Grad Amadeo Palace in which it is located – the museum space was increased from 860 to 3600 square meters . This gave the museum new exhibition spaces, and it is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, a laboratory and a souvenir shop, as well as a museum cafe. From now on, visitors can expect a new permanent exhibition enriched with multimedia solutions and interactive content, so that the rich Croatian cultural and natural heritage is presented in a modern and attractive way. The museum also received modern facilities for holding occasional exhibitions, holding lectures, workshops and other educational programs, and increased opportunities for scientific research.

The value of the investment in the renovation of that museum, which is one of the capital projects in Croatian culture, amounts to 31.6 million euros, which was secured through two large projects by the European Union, the City of Zagreb and the Republic of Croatia.

The Croatian Museum of Natural History is the national center and central institution for the collection, preservation, protection, presentation and scientific processing of natural history museum materials. About 1.5 million objects are stored in the museum collections – the origin of which is considered to be the National Museum founded in 1846.
