No matter what kind of movies you like, you will go to this cinema for the experience
At the end of last year, we announcedthe opening of a new cinema opposite the Zagreb police station in Petrinjska street . At the beginning of this year, we finally visited that cinema. It's an understatement to say that a visit is something that will satisfy everyone's movie taste. Mostly because by going there, you get an experience instead of just watching a movie.
The space where the Kek VR cinema is located is spacious, harmoniously decorated and well lit. Not only is it the first VR cinema in all of Croatia, but the Club for Expeditionism and Culture (KEK) made an effort to make this place more than just an ordinary cinema. They currently have two VR movies on offer.
1. Hunter gatherers
After researching key locations, communities and hunter-gatherer stories around the world, Davor Rostuhar spent three weeks in Tanzania in March 2023 with members of the Hadza tribe, whom he returned to ten years after his first encounter.
Following their daily life and echoing their beautiful click language, this VR documentary gives us the opportunity to better understand the social and ecological aspects of hunter-gatherer life, and to raise awareness of the importance of preserving the environment and authentic cultural heritage. However, it is not just the author's new and innovative anthropological-travel story, but a real virtual journey that offers viewers a unique and exclusive opportunity to teleport to a distant and completely unknown world!
2. David Attenborough: Conquest of Heaven
Join renowned British naturalist Sir David Attenborough on a fascinating journey through the evolution of flight in the immersive VR documentary 'Conquest of the Skies'. Based on the latest paleontological discoveries, this immersive experience allows you to marvel at the incredible variety of aerodynamic shapes as you discover a 320-million-year-long dynasty of flight in fascinating virtual reality. From an unprecedented perspective, witness how insects, reptiles and birds break free from the shackles of gravity and fly into the sky, with the legendary Sir David Attenborough as your guide.
Film, drink and lecture
Within the cinema area there is also a catering area with an offer of drinks that you can sip as you wish either before, during or after the movie. The films last 20 or 30 minutes, which may seem short to you. However, believe that this is exactly what you can handle. Namely, the VR glasses are heavy, so after so many minutes they become a little uncomfortable on the face, that is, they start to distract attention from the films themselves.
Let's go back to Hunters, author's VR documentary by Davor Rostuhar . You can buy a ticket for it only to watch the film or a combination of Rostuhar's lecture as an introduction to the screening or a Q&A after it ends. In this way, you can immediately satisfy the curiosity that the film will certainly arouse in you.
Namely, the experience of watching a VR movie is unique in that it causes numerous reactions. Now you are delighted with the opportunity to sit on the branch of a tall tree and watch a Tanzanian skillfully take bee combs from a beehive. You wince as you sit around the fire with the tribe and someone looks right in your direction.
We won't reveal the rest. Instead, we suggest you go on this VR adventure yourself. If you remember, let us know your impressions at info@divan.hr. Who knows, maybe we'll meet somewhere in the wilderness of Tanzacia 😉
