Stara Trešnjevka Park
STARA TREŠNJEVKA PARK (VELJKO VLAHOVIĆ PARK)
Stara Trešnjevka Park is one of the few parks in Stara Trešnjevka, located approximately halfway between Trešnjevka Square and the western centers of Trešnjevka, the busy Selska cesta and the nearby Remiza. There are several important public institutions around Stara Trešnjevka Park – in the building of the former Municipality there are some municipal services and the Ministry of Veterans, next to it on one side is the State Alert and Rescue Service, and on the other Trešnjevka Cultural Center and behind them the Health Center and the Police Station.
Until the independence of Croatia, the park was named Veljko Vlahović Park, and it also contained a sculpture dedicated to that war hero. After the Homeland War, a memorial dedicated to the victims of the war was erected in the park in 2003, Hrvatsko stablo – a monument to the fallen and deceased Croatian defenders of Trešnjevka, by Ivica Grošinić. In 2009, a children's playground was built in the park.
