Cherry Theater

The Trešnja City Theater has come a long way from amateur days to one of the best and most famous professional theaters for children in Croatia. The beginnings are connected with the society Naša djeca, whose employees are prone to theater, gather a children's drama group, which on May 8, 1954 performs the first complete play Little Red Riding Hood by Vladimir Nazor, directed by Neda Kubinek. Shortly after the success of the play, the drama group grew into the Pioneer Amateur Theater with its headquarters in the Maksim Gorki Cultural Center in Mošćenička 1, where the Trešnja City Theater as we know it today will be created thirty years later. The pioneering amateur theater immediately achieved numerous successes, so at the First Children's Festival in Šibenik in 1958, the play Timpetili, a city without parents was declared the best. We should also mention the first all-night children's ballet Pinocchio, with original music by Bruno Bjelinski and choreographed by Silvija Hercigonja, who will educate generations of young dancers in Trešnja. In addition to drama, there are dance and music groups in the theater, and pedagogical work will remain an indispensable component of Trešnja's activities to this day.
