Caucasus Theater Café

"Not at home, but still at home", an old Viennese saying about a café, which in one sentence summarizes the true meaning of that Central European and thus Croatian institution. The legendary Theater Café can thank the reputation of the cultural oasis of Zagreb thanks to the prominent writers and artists it hosted, from Matoš, Ujević, Šimić and Krleža, but also to the position in the very center of the city, opposite the HNK building. Recent history has not bypassed the Caucasus either – as part of the Caucasus-Zvečka-Blato triangle, the café reached its peak during the New Wave. The strong connection of the café with the theater is highlighted in every corner of the Caucasus, from the original manuscript of Vatroslav Lisinski applied on the ceiling above the entrance to numerous posters for plays from the history of the HNK, historical photographs and original drafts of the HNK.
