Maksimir Forest Park<\/a> , the first in Southeast Europe<\/a> , was opened in 1794<\/a> on the initiative of Bishop<\/a> Maksimilijan Vrhovec<\/a> . In 1839<\/a> . it was arranged in the English landscape style by Bishop Juraj Haulik<\/a> . The architectural structures are mostly the work of the builder Franjo Sch\u00fccht<\/a> . In the park of 316 hectares,<\/a> the flora<\/a> and fauna of<\/a> lowland forests have been preserved, and there are also five lakes (both natural and artificial). <\/p>\n

At the southern end of the park-forest is the Zagreb Zoo<\/a> . <\/p>\n

The name of the park is also borne by the city district,<\/a> which includes the territory of nearby city settlements, and the GNK Dinamo stadium<\/a> . <\/p>\n

In Maksimir Park grows a pedunculate oak<\/a> known as "Dedek", about 600 years old.
