Contemporary Dance Studio – Emergency Intervention Artist Choreographer: Clement Layes

Performances: 15.10. and 16.10. at 8 p.m.

Different in expression and approach, but thematically close to the Ensemble, considering that it also considers the position of artists in terms of art production and market, Clément Layes in The Artist for Emergency Interventions focuses on the question of how under the imperative of success, in a culture that does not suffer mistakes and stumbles. , maintain the necessary sensibility and distinguish the artistic impulse from the imposed values. How does society shape an artist if it does not allow him to learn and develop on his own mistakes? If the artist has no right to make a mistake, that is, to experiment with an unknown outcome, does that make art monotonous? How do you measure the success of an art project? Is art still art if the artist meets the requirements of the desired art product? Can an artist thus develop a critique of his own work, of the society in which he creates and which creates it? Where is the artist's responsibility? read more…

The emergency intervention artist must therefore learn to deal with failure, as failure forces him to face his own achievements and endeavors, leading him to make alternative choices and providing the opportunity to redefine himself. Art happens only by stepping out of the safety zone, in constant disintegration and rebuilding, in minimal changes that produce a shift in meaning, a shift in the whole image. Supported by a neutral performance mode, the newly achieved balance is destabilized both at the linguistic level and at the level of physicality by small modulations of tone, intensity and dynamics, ie one instability is balanced by another. The paintings are associatively multiplied and mutually reinforced, and the original artistic task becomes only the starting point for the next.
