Ray & Michael Cooney: Tom, Dick & Harriet

The British master of classical situation comedy, who likes to rely on the tradition of farce and vaudeville (Labiche, Feydeau…), is already well known to the Zagreb audience, primarily for his long-lived comedies. network), and here he associates the authorial forces with his son Michael.

It is well known to everyone how turbulent family relationships can be. Stressful. Full of surprises. And especially in situations when everything has to go well. Director, actor and playwright, “British Feydeau” Ray Cooney in collaboration with his son Michael signs the play Brother to Brother (Tom, Dick and Harry) centered on three brothers who are always there for each other – whenever needed, and even more often when no need. One, seemingly the most responsible of them, decides to adopt a child with his wife and goes through everything in vigorous preparations to avoid the slightest possibility of making a mistake, with the goal of appearing to the adoption agency as nothing less than a perfect family. But the moment the other two brothers decide to help, the mistakes they feared so much, like the sharp edges of the table, fall completely into the background. With an eternal apology it was in the best of intentions, the assistance of the brothers to the idyllic family home brings more than the occasional danger that threatens the only desire of the married couple, to finally have a child. Practicing the details that were supposed to show them to ideal future parents turns into a series of situations that, to put it mildly, get out of control. The most dangerous, however, is to think that it can’t go up because the accumulation of any troubles will start an avalanche that will require the most creative guidance on the spot. After all, being a parent no longer seems like the scariest thing in the world.

STORE Three brothers who are always there for each other – whenever they need to, and even more often when they don’t need to.

The couple, Lada and Petar Krpan, want to adopt a child. Their lives revolve around preparations for the arrival of a woman from a social care center who needs to assess whether their home environment is suitable and child-friendly. The happiest day of their lives is completely overshadowed by the arrival of Peter’s brothers – Drago and Ivica, who decide to help them on their own. As a result of their involvement with the “best intentions”, they bring an incredible array of uninvited guests to the door of an otherwise harmonious family – from illegal migrants, police officers, all the way to a Russian mobster. The home, which until recently seemed almost idyllic, is becoming a place to hide smuggled cigarettes and liquor, and even a dead body. Or at least parts of one. Petar Krpan, through whose back everything breaks, neither guilty nor guilty, finds himself at the center of events over which he has no control. But it is not said in vain that “blood is not water” and Peter grows from a seemingly calm family man into a professional liar out of necessity, who does everything in his power to restore order, and the much desired peace in the house. After all, being a parent no longer seems like the scariest thing in the world.
