When they first met on the beach at the Turkish resort of Marmaris, Marion and Baran could not belong to different worlds: Marion, a confident independent pilot from Germany, meets Baran, a charming and nonchalant Kurdish gigolo who dreams of a better life on the other side of the Bosphorus. Determined, Baran begs Marion to take him to Germany. Quite contrary to his otherwise thoughtful and reserved behavior, Marion accepts the risk and makes a deal with him. Maybe because she was forced to reconsider her life so far? After an unusual start, they seem destined for a common future, but things are not so simple…

A witty and surprisingly touching love story that transcends social and cultural conventions. Young director Ilker Çatak skillfully avoids clichés typical of Hollywood romantic comedies and creates a layered, playful romance characterized by a tangible chemistry between the film couple and inspired acting performances. Çatak does not condemn the actions of his characters, defies stereotypes and talks about the courage needed to face foreignness, take risks and accept challenges. Although the grass is never green on the other side, unexpected and important changes are waiting around the corner at all times.

Ilker Çatak was nominated for a Student Oscar in 2014 for his short film Wo wir sind (Where We Are), and won the Max Ophüls Film Festival. His second feature film Spoken Word Valid at the 2020 German Film Awards won the Bronze Award for Best Film.
