Black Mother Earth

At the center of the story is Matija Dolenčec, a writer who lives and works in Zagreb and who is going through a writer’s and intimate blockade. Due to the deep repression of the trauma from the past, he is constantly lying and these lies finally cost him his relationship with his girlfriend Dina. At the moment of interruption, she asks him what sins he could have committed as a six-year-old, without being able to admit them today, neither to himself nor to her. This encourages him to return to that painful period, to his childhood and rural Međimurje of the nineties, which we meet through a mixture of reality and imagination, through dialect, folk customs, mythology and legends, but also through the entire social pathology. Little by little, everything that really happened came to light, and was constantly pushed under the carpet…

The ensemble of the play is led by Adrian Pezdirc, as Matija, and there are also Dado Ćosić, Doris Šarić Kukuljica, Urša Raukar, Pjer Meničanin, Milica Manojlović, Nataša Dorčić, Mia Melcher, Dora Polić Vitez, Nataša Dangubić, Barbara Prpić, Nadja Perišić Radović, Damir Šaban, Danijel Ljuboja, Zoran Čubrilo, Jasmin Telalović, Mateo Videk, Stanko Kovačić and Nikola Ljutić and Leon Bujanović in the role of little Matija.
